5 CLIMATE PROTECTION Climate neutral company As a traditional family company, we take res- ponsibility for acting in an environmentally and climate-conscious manner in the interests of the following generations. We follow the holistic idea of climate protection: Avoid unnecessary emissions, reduce existing emissions and offset unavoidable emissions. Our annual CO 2 balance forms the basis. All emissions are recorded there, for example caused by heating, electricity, business trips, employee travel, paper consumption and other factors. The CO 2 balance shows which greenhouse gas emis- sions we can reduce and which we can avoid in the long term. We are consistent and offset all unavoidable emissions through the climate protection project “Santa Maria Forest Protection” in Brazil. The project protects 71,000 hectares of the Amazon rainforest from deforestation and slash and burn. Measure - reduce - balance CLIMATE PROTECTION MEASURES Energy from nature We also offset the CO 2 emissions caused by transporting our Lupriflex safety shoes from the production facilities to our warehouse by inves- ting in the forest protection project in Brazil. Our parcel service provider transports our par- cels in a climate-neutral way. Climate neutral transport Our company is climate neutral, and has been since 2008. We want to cut our CO 2 emissions in half by 2030, including our products. You can see how this works from the example on page 6. Our goal for 2040 is: Zero, i.e. to be comple- tely emission-free. The shoe boxes for the Lupriflex safety shoes and the outer packaging are made from recycled paper, as are the business and copy paper. Climate neutral printing - recycled paper We use green electricity from hydropower and operate a photovoltaic system. The biogas used to generate heat comes from the independent eco-energy supplier Polarstern and is obtained 100% from renewable energies and waste.
