SHOE CARE TIPS Buy shoes that fit The most important requirement: Shoes have to fit properly. Too small or too tight shoes cause deforma- tions of the upper leather. In case of too wide shoes wrinkles appear or the leather breaks and ages prematurely. Store shoes by using shoe trees Suitable shoe trees (preferably made of wood) give the shoes shape and extend their lifespan significantly. They gently absorb the foot moisture stored in the leather while keeping the shoe in shape. Clean and care regularly Leather is a natural product. Its durability will increaseby regular care. Impregnate shoes As a preventative measure, the shoes should be im- pregnated after purchase - even if they have already been impregnated. Then apply the first time a care product. Let shoes dry slowly If shoes are wet or have been dampened, let them dry slowly and never directly near heat sources. Quick drying makes leather brittle. It is best to stuff the shoes with an absorbent material (eg newspaper) beforehand. Wet-clean shoes If there are stains due to sweating or snow wash immediately with lukewarm water. It is always neces- sary to moisten the whole shoe (only from the outside) with lukewarm water and wash it off with the help of leather soap (drying: see left). Then they should be treated intensively with a suitable care product. For textile materials you can also use gentle detergents. In all these procedures, you should take care that the shoe seams and glued areas (soles, heels) are not over-moistened - therefore it is not recommended to wash them in the washing machine. Smooth leather needs specific care After having removed the surface dirt by a soft brush or a damp cloth smooth leather is usually maintained with special creams and rubbed afterwards with gentle pressure. Textile shoe materials Textiles absorb moisture and dirt very intensively. Thorough, repeated impregnation not only protects against wet feet, but also facilitates the necessary cleaning considerably. Light dirt is gently removed with a textile brush, heavier ones with foam cleaners developed for textiles. Important: For drying always pull them on shoe trees. Special materials in conjunction with membrane equipment usually only need to be wiped off when they are dirty. Store shoes The shoes should be cleaned, maintained, stretched and stored in a cupboard, shoe bag or shoe box in a dry place.
